The First Electric Compact SUV
Introducing the ground-breaking KONA Electric, the uncompromising newcomer that combines bold, roomy SUV with impressive electric driving range.
Enter the Electrified World
Combining expansive space and head-turning good looks. With an exceptional electric driving range of up to 499km, the KONA Electric gives you the best of both worlds – with no compromises.
Combining sculpted lines with a stylish edge, the all-new KONA Electric is expressive from every angle.
KONA Electric has been designed to look good and run better. Featuring aerodynamic design elements like the closed grille, aerodynamically optimized wheels and underbody as well as an active air flap in the front bumper, its overall drag coefficient has been reduced for even better efficiency.
Beautiful and Practical
With its stable and wide stance, the KONA Electric features a roof rail that visually enhances the sleek roof line and supports up to 80 kg of load – so you can mount a roof carrier and take your favorite equipment with you.
The sleek aerodynamic design theme can also be found in the rear bumper and slim LED rear lights. Wrap-around claddings with integrated indicator and reversing lights further emphasise the progressive design.
An electric vehicle that doesn’t compromise on space, KONA Electric delivers a generous trunk volume of 332 litres. The wide-opening rear hatch and low load height makes loading quick and hassle-free. It’s also simple to adjust: you can fold down the rear seats in seconds using easy to reach buttons. And with the seats folded flat, you have a roomy 1,114 liters of space – perfect for weekend escapes.
The traditional shifter has been replaced by the four drive-by-wire buttons of the automatic transmission. An electric driving design change that makes room for the extra storage space for personal items that can be found underneath the center console. This is the biggest change inside the KONA Electric compared to the conventional KONA.
New 7” Digital Cluster
The innovative 7” digital instrument cluster indicates drive mode and clearly monitors energy flow and battery charge level. One glance is all it takes to see how your driving style is influencing your driving range.
Button Type Shift-by-wire
Everything you need, right at your fingertips. Shift seamlessly between drive, neutral, reverse, or activate the parking brake using buttons conveniently located within the centre console.
Safety & Performance
Performance and Technology
Head-up Display (HUD)
Featuring outstanding luminance for easy visibility, head-up display helps you stay safe by projecting important information like speed, navigation commands, and warnings right into your line of sight.
KRELL Premium Sound System
The KRELL audio system delivers high-fidelity audio at low volumes on Premium models and above. Featuring eight speakers, two 20 mm tweeters, four 160mm woofer speakers, one
100mm centre speaker and a 200 mm subwoofer speaker, the eight-channel amplifier delivers 45W per channel to fill the cabin with crystal-clear audio.
Lithium-ion Polymer Battery
Hyundai decided to use a lithium-ion polymer battery pack for the all-new KONA Electric instead of conventional nickel-metal hybrid batteries. This provides lower memory sensitivity and excellent charge and discharge efficiency, along with outstanding maximum output. A newly developed Battery Thermal Management system in KONA Electric enables higher battery efficiency and higher lifetime. It is water cooled through the connection to the A/C system and heated by an electric heating element.
Pick your power and define your preferred range by selecting from two battery versions: the 39.2 kWh version with a top speed of 155 km/h with up to 312 km driving range on the WLTP cycle (345 km NEDC converted). The 64 kWh version with a top speed of 167 km/h delivers up to 482 km on the WLTP cycle (546 km NEDC converted) driving range on a single charge.
Charging Time Reservation
A few taps is all it takes to save money. Use the Charging Time Reservation function on the center screen to program start and stop charging times to make the most of off-peak electricity rates and wake up to a fully charged battery.
Hyundai SmartSense™ safety features.
Hyundai SmartSense is our cutting-edge Advanced Driver Assistance System, bringing together the latest in active safety technology for more peace of mind on the road.
Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go (SCC w/ S&G)
This smart system maintains a set distance from the car in front, automatically reducing or increasing speed to a pre-set limit according to traffic conditions. When the car comes to a standstill in traffic, the SSC monitor will look out for movement; when movement is detected, you’ll be prompted to tap the accelerator to reactive the cruise control.
Low Beam Assist (LBA-S)
See more and drive safer. The Low Beam Assist illuminates the front side area ahead when cornering, improving visibility at night.
Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA)
Using the rear corner radar, RCTA reduces the risk of collision with approaching traffic when reversing out of narrow areas with low visibility. Using radar to scan a 180-degree area behind the vehicle for approaching cross traffic, RCCW alerts the driver visually and audibly.
Lane Following Assist (LFA)
The KONA Electric Premim and Premium SE feature LFA. When activated, it keeps the SUV centred in its lane at speeds between 0 and 70mph (functional up to 93mph where permitted) on highways and city streets.
Lane Keeping Assist (LKA)
Standard on KONA Electric, LKA uses the front camera to monitor the lines of the road. In case of an unintended lane departure, it will warn the driver and can apply counter steering torque to guide the car back to the lane.
Blind Spot Detection (BSD) with Lane Change Assist
Also using radar, BSD monitors the rear corners and, if another vehicle is detected, a visual alert appears on the exterior mirrors. If the driver then activates the indicators, an audible signal is emitted.
High Beam Assist (HBA)
The headlamps are available with state-of-the-art LED technology, pairing daylight-like illumination with a long lifetime and significantly lower energy consumption than halogen lights. When switched to automatic mode, High Beam Assist (HBA) detects both oncoming vehicles and vehicles in the same lane ahead at night, and changes to low-beam as appropriate, reducing blinding effects on other drivers. Whenever there are no vehicles detected, the system automatically reactivates the high beam.
Driver Attention Warning (DAW)
The Driver Attention Warning (DAW) raises safety and convenience to an entirely new level by continuously monitoring and analyzing driving patterns through data inputs, such as the steering angle, steering torque and vehicle position in the traffic lane. When a pattern of fatigue/distraction is identified, DAW gets the driver’s attention with an audible alert and pop-up message suggesting a break.
Intelligent Speed Limit Warning (ISLW)
The Intelligent Speed Limit Warning uses the front camera and information from the navigation system to identify road speed signs and displays the speed limit and no-passing signs in real time. The information is displayed in both the navigation system display and the TFT cluster.
Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) with Pedestrian Detection
The All-New Kona Electric is fitted with AEB with pedestrian detection, an advanced active safety feature that alerts drivers to emergency situations, braking automatically if required. Using front radar and camera sensors, AEB operates in three stages. Initially warning the driver visually and acoustically, it controls the brake according to the collision danger level, and applies maximum braking force to avoid a collision or minimise damage when a collision is unavoidable. The system is activated when a vehicle or pedestrian is sensed in front of the car, operating at speeds of 5mph or above.
